not fully sure what I'm doing... it'll get there

(I'm not fully sure how to get the wood texture.. I'm working on it!)

  1. I really like how you have the angles for this object. It's unique and interesting to look at. I don't know how you would do the wood texture either, possibly by adding more anchor point and doing separate sections at a time to really get the specific details to show. I think you should add more anchor points to the blue sphere in your second image and a second mesh under the sphere to get the shadow. The wooden structure seems to be coming together rather well with the shapes and depth.

  2. This looks great so far. Try to really get those grains in the wood. Also the ball looks like its a shiny marble like ball rather than a ball with dings and such. I am not sure how but if you could get the ball to have some texture i think it would make the whole object really look realistic!

  3. I really like this object, I have no idea what it is but i'd like to know! (I'm assuming similar to ball and cup?) Anyway, great start to the gradient meshes. You have the core colors down, but the details appear to get muddled in. I would suggest pulling your anchor points closer together on close details, like the grain on the wood, that way it appears more crisp and clear. This goes the same for the ball. Try to get the mesh points on places where there isn't any fade between two colors, that's what leads to a "chopping off" of a gradient.
